As part of its fleet renewal, Flugsportclub Würzburg / Germany is selling its DG 500/22. With a 22 m wingspan, flaps and a best glide ratio of approximately 47:1, the DG 500/22 offers genuine two-seat cross-country performance in a remarkably compact package for an Open Class sailplane. For clubs in particular, we consider this aircraft especially attractive. For several years, FSCW has operated a DG-505 in the 20 m configuration alongside the DG 500/22; the DG-505 is also used for training in our club. Based on our experience, the DG 500/22 is very comparable to this DG-505 in terms of ground handling and general handling. Despite its 22 m wingspan, it can be moved on the ground, rigged and derigged efficiently by a small crew. In flight, our DG 500/22 has also proved pleasant, well-balanced and forgiving in club operation. Despite the additional flap control, it integrates very well into normal club flying. At the same time, the flaps and 22 m wingspan provide a significant step up in performance towards ambitious cross-country flying. This gives the DG 500/22 a particularly interesting position in the market: genuine high-performance two-seat cross-country flying, coaching and shared cross-country flights with high-performance single-seaters, without the acquisition cost of today's high-performance two-seaters or the ground-handling requirements of large 25- to 26-metre Open Class two-seaters. The aircraft is also attractive for decentralised competitions: in the 2026 DAeC DMSt handicap list, the DG 500 22 m is rated at an index of 110.
